About TalkThinkThrive

Meet Omar Ruiz, LMFT

I’m Omar Ruiz, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I established TalkThinkThrive as a relationship counseling practice offering sessions online or at my office at 11 River Street in Wellesley, MA.

I focus deliberately on two things: infidelity recovery and communication struggles. I’d rather go deep in the areas I know best than offer a little of everything — so that’s what I built this practice around.

Why I Do This Work

I didn’t come to this work in the abstract. Early in my first marriage, I experienced infidelity firsthand — a betrayal I didn’t learn about until years after it happened. I know, from the inside, what it feels like to have the ground disappear under you, and what it takes to rebuild something afterward, or to grieve it honestly. That experience shaped how directly I work with clients now — including my own decision to go through couples therapy myself, in that marriage and in my current relationship, to become a more grounded, present partner.

Communication wasn’t something I was taught either. I grew up in a Puerto Rican household shaped by domestic abuse, where defensiveness became a survival skill long before I had to unlearn it as a partner. Most communication programs, even at graduate level, rarely teach the specific relational skills couples actually need — so I bring both research-based tools and what I’ve had to learn firsthand about how our upbringing shapes the way we do, or don’t, communicate with the people we love.
In 2022, I was featured in The New York Times discussing what it means to fall out of love — this isn’t just professional interest to me. It’s something I’ve lived and continue to work on.

My Approach: Narrative Therapy

I work from a narrative therapy framework — the belief that you are not the problem, the problem is the problem. Rather than deciding who’s “right” or assigning blame, I help couples name what’s actually happening between them — a pattern, a betrayal, a breakdown in communication — as something separate from either person’s identity. That distinction makes room for real collaboration instead of defensiveness.

My
Values

Commitment

Working hard to deliver action plans and concrete solutions toward real change — not just conversation for its own sake.

Genuineness

Real conversations with real people. I work to break down the stigma around therapy, one honest session at a time.

Collaboration

Connecting with the people already in your life — partners, family, other providers — to ensure continuity of care rather than working in isolation.

Expertise

A specific, narrow focus on infidelity recovery and communication, backed by 15+ years of clinical training and experience — not a generalist approach applied to every kind of relationship struggle.
